B.I.R.S.A. Mines Monitoring Centre (Ranchi) is documenting and monitoring the mines, mining companies, and mineral based industries of Jharkhand state. The documentation is a continuance of an already existing decade long collection of newspaper cuttings, journals and reports. The storage and retrieval of these documents are made in hard and soft copy format. Additionally there is documentation on women rights, health, environment, Tribal rights and identity (Language, art and culture). These documents are stored as Primary Source Documents, Secondary Source Documents, and Library Reference Documents and Xerox copies are available at a reasonable cost upon request.

1. Primary Source Documents
The Primary Source Documents include research articles, scientific papers, and reports; also hard-bound reports, seminar proceedings, publication and brochures which are numbered, labeled and arranged in different categories like Mining Reports; Coal Mining; Uranium Mining; Environment, Tribal Rights; Labour Rights & Land Rights; Gender & Human Rights, Etc. The are over 400 such documents and the list will be uploaded soon.

2. Secondary Source Documents
The Secondary Source Documents are a collection of local newspaper cuttings and magazine articles which are arranged  in 30 categories relevant to mining in Jharkhand.

3. Library Reference Documents
There are reference books, GSI publications, magazines & journals on mining and allied subjects, for reference kept in the library.
